The web hosting service provided by B2B Web uses the DirectAdmin control panel.

The control panel gives you access to such things as your email accounts, your web site statistics and your passwords. Each hosting account has a secure log in.

To access your control panel go to www.yourdomainname.co.uk:2222

and enter your username and password (all passwords are CaSe SensiTiVe). Make sure you enter the right upper or lower case letters.

Working with email

If you have set up an email account, you can forward your incoming emails to your mail box accounts. You can then use OUTLOOK or OUTLOOK EXPRESS (or any other brand of email client) to send and receive email using your domain name. You can also read your email using a web browser.

Each account has a pre-set number of mail boxes called "Email Accounts". These receive incoming email.

When we set up your hosting account, we create a mail box for you. Technically, mail boxes are called "POP3" boxes). This is usually called mail@yourdomain name. Depending on which level of account you have, you can create more than one mail box and several email forwarders.

Forwarders are your actual email addresses; you can forward these to your mail boxes or to any external email address, such as a Hotmail address.

You can also read your email using your web browser. You can do this from any computer that has an internet connection (just the same as Hotmail, Yahoo or MSN mail).

For example, to read your email, using your web browser, you would go to

http://www.yourdomainname.co.uk/squirrelmail

and enter the user name and password set up for the email account you wish to read.

Your user name will be the name of email account

Standard accounts have up to 5 email accounts and up to 10 email addresses (forwarders).

Forwarders are the actual email addresses that you set up. They are forwarded to either one of your email post boxes or to an external email system (such as Hotmail).

Settings for outgoing mail

When you put settings into Outlook/Outlook Express or any other email client on your PC, you will be asked to enter an "SMTP" address for outgoing mail. This should be the outgoing mail address supplied by your Internet Service Provider.

So, if you connect to the Internet using (for example) BT CONNECT, your outgoing mail setting will be something like smtp.btconnect.com

You should use the SMTP address for your Internet Service Provider.

Uploading files to your web site

If you have a web site and have changed some of the pages, you will need to upload these pages to your web space. To do this, you will need some software that will do "FTP" (File Transfer Protocol).

Software that handles the uploading and downloading of files from a web hosting account is called an "FTP client".

B2B Web recommends SMART FTP - available from their web site.

To create an FTP account, you need to set one up using your DirectAdmin control panel.

We will probably have set one up for you when we created your hosting account.

You will need to set up your FTP client to upload files and for this you will need 3 things:

  • The host name: usually yourdomainname.co.uk
  • Your FTP user name: usually on our system this is webmaster@yourdomainname.co.uk
  • Your FTP password: what we set up for you or whatever you chose when you created your own account.

When uploading files to our web hosting, it is very important you place these files in this folder: /public_html/

If your files go up anywhere else, they will not show up in a web browser.

Viewing your web site's visitors statistics

If you want to find out how many hits your web site has had, go to this address:

www.yourdomainname.co.uk/stats

You will see the month highlighted in blue. You can click on each month to get a breakdown of the statistics for that month.
